Sickness.
I found out yesterday that my dad is really sick. He has sarcoidosis, which is when you get little collections of immune cells that hang out by various organs and make them have to work harder. He’s had it for at least 15 years now, but it was always around his heart. Sometimes he’d have to go in and have his esophagus stetched, but it was never a ‘big deal’ kind of thing. Now they just told me that the sarcoid has spread to his lungs, and that he’s having major problems breathing. He went to the emergency room because he had so much pain he thought he was having a heart attack.
I talked to him on the phone yesterday and he couldn’t finish sentences without needing to gasp for air. It made me totally sad, and I had to leave work so that I didn’t cry at my desk. It’s so hard being 2,000 miles away, because I just want to be there with him and give him a hug. He’s going to see an emergency specialist on Monday, so I hope to know more after then. I really really hope he’s going to be okay. My dad is such an amazing man.
